News Flash:

One of the most senior British army officers in Afghanistan has been killed by a roadside bomb in the southern province of Helmand ina Viking vehicle. Another vehcile that has prove to be unsuitable for Afghanistan. Two more lives lost and for what?

Above The Royal Marine Commando Green Berets on patrol:

The defence ministry said on Thursday. Lieutenant Colonel Rupert Thorneloe, 40, died with another British soldier when a bomb exploded under his armoured vehicle in a resupply convoy near the town of Lashkar Gah on Wednesday. The deaths were confirmed on the day thousands of American soldiers in Afghanistan launched the biggest offensive since U.S. President Barack Obama assumed office in January. Thorneloe, the commanding officer of the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, was the highest-ranking British soldier to be killed in Afghanistan since Britain joined the U.S.-led invasion in 2001. Only about three British officers of Thorneloe's rank are typically deployed in Afghanistan at any one time, a defence ministry spokesman said. The last British officer of a similar rank to die in combat was Wing Commander John Coxen, killed in a helicopter crash in Basra, southern Iraq, in May 2006, the spokesman said. "The deaths...are a devastating blow to the Welsh Guards Battle Group and to the army as a whole," General Sir Richard Dannatt, the chief of the general staff, head of the British army, said in a statement. The U.S. military said the new offensive, Operation Khanjar, or Strike of the Sword, was intended to seize most of the lower Helmand River valley, the heartland of the Taliban insurgency and the world's biggest opium poppy-producing region. Violence in Afghanistan is at its highest since the invasion of 2001. Britain has about 8,300 soldiers fighting the Taliban, mainly in the south. Thorneloe, who commanded more than 1,000 soldiers, and Trooper Joshua Hammond were the 17th and 18th British soldiers to be killed in Afghanistan since May. The total number of deaths for the British forces 171 and counting.

UK forces in huge Afghanistan operation Operation Panther's Claw .

'Lack of suitable vehicles' and the SA80A2 in Afghanistan is murdering our young men'

A serious shortage of suitable vehicles and rifles not-fit-for-purpose is hampering operations in Afghanistan, British commanders have told SSARMCA.

SSARMCA sleeper has said the lack of heavily armoured Land Rovers was not the problem. Although SSARMCA has highlighted the fact on many occasions that Land Rovers are not suitable in the Afghanistan style of warfare and completely useless against IEDs. A SSARMCA serving member of the British Forces and sleeper in Helmand province, said only 126 Land Rovers of the 170 needed were in working order. The Ministry of Defence insisted troops were properly equipped to do their job. The complaints came just a day after UK forces took control of Afghanistan's southern provinces as part of the Nato mission there.

'A hammering'

Armoured Land Rovers - or WMIKs (weapons-mounted installation kits) - are used to protect soldiers while out on patrol or operations. These open toy vehicles with heavy Machine Guns are useless once under fire. Without armoured protection the crews must disembark leaving their comrades without heavy machine cover. And until recently when SSARMCA suggested the crews should also carry personal weaponry they were left cowering behind the vehicles for cover with no way of firing back at the enemy. A more suitable vehicle and would save lives would be a new generation of the Ferret Armoured Vehicle. Which would you rather be in under fire?   The fully armoured Ferret with mounted  50 Calbre heavy machine gun can out range the Taleban. Production of this vehicle discontinued in 1971 as being unsuitable for the streets of Northern Ireland aprt of the UK. British troops on the ground without heavy machine gun cover are left at a great disadvantage. SSARMCA‘s man, embedded as a serving member of British troops, said an average of one of these vehicles a week was being lost and replacements sent from the UK often arrived late. He stated the WMIKs as useless as they are taking "a hell of a hammering" in the hot and dusty conditions and said the situation was "tight, but not critical yet". A fifth of the fleet is damaged or has been destroyed by enemy fire, he added, but more would be arriving soon. Another vehicle, a Pinzgauer, has been fitted with extra armour to try to cover the shortfall, but there is a limit to the number of men and the amount of equipment they can carry, our sleeper has said. The strain was increased because extra troops had recently been deployed without extra vehicles, he added. A spokesman for the MoD denied there was a shortage and said huge investments had been made in equipment for the Army. However, the MoD, who promised SSARMCA they would replace WMIKs and all Snatch Land Rovers by January 2009 with vehicles more suitable, have gone back on their word. "The lack of success by British our forces against the Taleban and the lost lives shows that they are not only among the best in the world, but sadly among the poorest equipped." Armed with only SA80A2 suitable for close quarter jungle and street fighting only. With a killing range of just over 200 yards against AK47 with a killing range of 1,200 yards, troops can be picked off like toy ducks at a fair ground. The SA80A2 5.56mm impresses the Press when putting holes in paper targets at 600 yards they are no match for the AK47 7.62mm Assault rifle: Killing range: 1,350m. Twenty-one years after its introduction, the standard issue weapon for the British armed forces is earning the front line reviews that commanders on the ground had hoped would come much earlier.

British forces fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan have carried out one of the biggest air operations of modern times. More than 350 troops from the Black Watch were dropped into Helmand province just after midnight on Friday in Operation Panther's Claw. Military chiefs deployed 12 Chinook helicopters supported by 13 other aircraft including Apache and Black Hawk helicopter gunships and Harrier jets. Operation Panther's Claw aims to secure several canal and river crossings so a permanent International Security Assistance Force can be set up in what has been a Taliban stronghold. The Black Watch troops were followed by Royal Engineers and explosive teams who have spent the last two days building checkpoints for the Afghan National Police to help stop movement by insurgents. The militants launched a number of attacks against the Black Watch but each was fought off and the Scottish troops have secured three main crossing points: the Lui Mandey Wadi crossing, the Nahr-e-Burgha canal and the Shamalan canal. They also found 1.3 tonnes of poppy seed and a number of improvised explosive devices and mines before they could be laid.

Lieutenant Colonel Nick Richardson, spokesman for Task Force Helmand, said the find demonstrated the link between the insurgency and opium production "which brings so much misery to the streets of the UK". He said: "This operation has been achieved in many ways due to the arrival of extra US troops into the south of Helmand, which has provided Isaf with a massive increase in capability which we believe will significantly change the balance in the province." The operation is the latest in a series over the last few months where UK and Isaf forces have taken and held ground in Helmand for how long we do not know. Chief of Defence Staff Sir Jock Stirrup said: "All operations in Afghanistan are significant but we're in a particularly challenging period at the moment with the run-up to the presidential election. But we need more troops. "The provision of sufficient levels of security so that we can have a successful election is extremely important. Of course, this operation is all part of the wider Isaf plan to deliver that." He said the operation was "fairly large" but also significant because Helmand was the focus for most violence and insurgent activity in Afghanistan. "That's understandable because this is vital ground for the enemy," he said. "In that context, this is the point of confrontation between Isaf and the Taliban. So, you can imagine that it's a pretty crucial operation." Ministers are considering plans to send the Royal Marines back to Afghanistan to retest the SA80A2 rifle in an effort to convince troops of its reliability. A submission drawn up by Army officers and presented to ministers this weekend states that radical action is needed to boost confidence in the new weapon, which Royal Marine Commandos state the SA80A2 repeatedly jams during military operations. Many troops are so dissatisfied with the rifle that they are calling for it to be scrapped. Senior military officers, however, believe that if they can persuade the Royal Marines that the SA80A2 is good enough to take into battle, the controversy will end. One recommendation to ministers suggests that a force of 30 Marines be flown back to Bagram airbase in Afghanistan and the weapon put through a number of trials in the same conditions where it was previously reported to have jammed. A Ministry of Defence official said: "The SA80A2 is a perfectly capable weapon, as good as any in the marketplace. But there is a serious confidence problem with it. Soldiers are not convinced that it will work in the desert or in adverse weather conditions. "Claims that we are about to scrap this weapon are simply untrue. If, however, the weapon continues to fail then we would have to think again." SSARMCA disclosed last week that the official report into the repeated failures of the SA80A2 in Afghanistan had cleared the weapon and stated that the Marines using it were to blame. The report, drawn up by a Royal Marine colonel, said that some of the troops were failing to clean the rifle properly. The defence official continued: "I still think that we have to demonstrate to our own soldiers that the maintenance regime of the SA80A2 is acceptable for a field weapon. That's the longer-term confidence problem that we have to resolve." About 3,000 SA80A2s were upgraded each month by the arms manufacturer Heckler & Koch, at a cost of £92 million. A SA80A" costs £200 - the AK47 £1,200. Clearly the AK47 is not sophisticated enough for the British Forces but something must be found to replace the SA80A2 5.56mm pea-shooters. The average ambush from mountain to mountain is over 1,000 yards. It is not suitable for mountain to mauntain fighting or the open desert plains of Afghanistan.

DEAD 169 And Still Counting - cost to the British Taxpayer - £2-billions a year  - I,300 maimed - Is it time to recall our young men and women?

The young trooper above died March 2009 -  Their deaths take the number of British Forces who have died in the troubled country since 2001 to 106. The grim milestone of 169 dead was reached this week with the killing of three men from 2 Para. Other DEAD Troopers and Marines yet Lawyer Phil Shiner of the Public Interest Law firm is still scouring the sewers in Iraq and Afghanistan looking for reasons to bring actions against these fine men and women for 30 pieces of silver. He is funded to represent terrorists by the British Legal Services Commission from your {The British Taxpayers} legal aid funds.

All Dead.   yet like the three monkeys the British government prevents photos of severely maimed British troops being published. They are not allowed to attend parades or rememberance services. We have askeded our American friends if we can publish their photos to allow the British public a glimse of the suffering of over 1,300 British troops. George Bush, with all his faults visited the severely wounded. None of our British Ministers or Party Leaders have done so:

Ex-marine's hike for heroes:

http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/index_sub.html

A FORMER Royal Marine is donning his Royal Marine combats once again to take part in a charity hike across London. Inspector Rickie Botwright is one of 50 ex-commandoes taking part in a 13 mile speed march through the capital this November. Money raised is being donated to the Help for Heroes charity on behalf of servicemen injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now a Great Yarmouth-based police inspector, Rickie served 12 years in the Marines, including the Falklands in 1982. All those taking part are now serving police officers, like dad of two Rickie, who have been inspired to help fellow veterans. Starting in Greenwich, the march will finish at the Royal Marines memorial in the Mall where the Royal Marines regimental band will play the salute. The event on Saturday, November 7 will be followed by a regimental dinner in the evening and marchers will join the Remembrance Sunday commemorations in London the following day. "We are hoping to fund some ex-servicemen taking part in the 2012 Paralympics and go towards rehabilitation and financial support for those who are suffering. There is a young lad who lives near me in Gorleston who was shot in the leg serving in Iraq, which brings back how close this is to home for many people." Each participant is hoping to raise at least £500. Rickie seeks pledges of support from fellow police officers and shop and market stall owners in town.

VETERAN TENNANTS' LIVING ON THE BASIC STATE PENSION, LIVING IN PRIVATE RENTED ACCOMMODATION STARVE AND FREEZE TO DEATH.
Are MPs, exposed as property speculators or will be when they leave office and rent out their second homes bought by us the taxpayers, turning a blind eye to the plight of the elderly pensioners living in England caught by the 1988 Housing Act 6-month only short-hold self-assured tenancy agreement and and inadiquate basic State Pension compounded by the rent service not-fit-for purpose assessments and inadiquate local housing allowances? They keep quoting Germany as renting their homes more than the British who tend to buy. They fail to inform the public caught by the 6-month only tenancy agreement that in Germany security of tenure is paramount. Only a German Judge can order an evictionin exceptional circumstances. An English judge has no power and must issue an enforcement oprder allowing landlords to use bailiffs to force entry and drag the elderly sick and dying from thei rented homes.

Dear Susan,

Many thanks for your further email regarding secure homes for elderly veterans. I apologise that it has taken us a little while to get back to you; an office restucture meant that we have been dealing with a large backlog of post for a few weeks. Renting, including shorthold tenancy agreements, gives some people the flexible form of accommodation that they are looking for at the time. However it isn't suitable for everyone and the problem at the moment is that a combination of high purchase prices for property and a shocking lack of social housing means that people are forced into the private rented sector (and its shorthold tenancies) when it might not be appropriate and may not be ideal, for example, for elderly veterans. What we really need is a significant expansion of social housing (which provides assured tenancies/permanent tenancies) so that entering social housing is viable option for far more people. Thank you once again for contacting us.

Yours sincerely,

Anna Brown

PRESS RELEASE:

The European Union {formerly Common Market - Now The United States of Europe - Were we conned in 1973} is costing us approximately £57-billions every year. Our total national debt. Over 4.3 million European Migrant Workers have entered and settled in England since 2003 soaking up scarce private rented housing stock. We have 1.5-million homeless. (150,000 are veterans). Is there a link? The EU workers must live somewhere. It is not their fault. Yet the only political parties seeking to take us out of the white elephant are un-selectable UKIP the BNP, English Democrats, Socialist Labour Party.

MPs Allowances. Most MPs are But-to-Let landlords or will be when they leave office and rent their 2nd homes paid for by us, 'the taxpayer'. We could not understand why over the last two decades since the introduction of the 1988 Housing Act which allows landlords to evict on demand and from which there is no defence in law, MPs failed to support our campaign for security of tenure for the over 60s. Any person, young, old, sick or dying failing to vacate a private rented property after the six-month only tenancy agreement has no protection from our courts. An English judge must issue a repossession order. With No Protection in Law, Rackman style landlords are back, not using thugs in leather coats to evict tenants but skin-headed thugs know as bailiffs and British police. The judge has no choice. That court order allows Buy-to-Let landlords to engage bailiffs. Accompanied by British police they can break down the door and evict that tenant. No account is taken of age, health or personal circumstances. According to the Ministry of Justice website, over 1 -million tenants are evicted every year in 21st Century England including men, women and children. Evicted victims on basic State Pensions and Local Housing Allowances (housing benefits a grant from central government not local taxation, face the impossible task of finding a two-room property at no more than £76.14p a week rent. Taking one for more and they must make up the shortfall from basic State pension. It is estimated that between 25,500 and 45,000 elderly die because they cannot afford to heat their homes. Such is the indictment the International Criminal Court prosecutors and the United Nations Human Rights Commissioner are investigating the possibility this is genocide.

Mr Peter William Bunce {HERO} wins case against the pensions tribunal acted beyond its powers:

This is a mile stone for all veterans:

Court of Appeal
Published April 15, 2009
Regina (Bunce) v Pensions Appeal Tribunal and Another
Before Lord Justice Laws, Lord Justice Wall and Lord Justice Aikens
Reasons April 6, 2009

On an appeal against an interim assessment by the Ministry of Defence of the degree of a person’s disability, the Pensions Appeal Tribunal did not have jurisdiction to challenge either the existence of the disability or whether the disability was attributable to service in the Armed Forces. The Court of Appeal so stated when giving reasons for allowing, on February 18, 2009, a renewed application by the claimant, Peter William Bunce, for permission to apply for, and granting judicial review of, inter alia, the decision of the first respondent, the Pensions Appeal Tribunal, of May 8, 2006, that, inter alia, an interim assessment of his disability for the purposes of his entitlement to a disablement pension under the Naval, Military and Air Forces, Etc (Disablement and Death) Service Pensions Order (SI 1983 No 883), made by the second respondent, the Secretary of State for Defence, on November 26, 2007, would be reduced from 70 to 30 per cent. In 1951 the claimant sustained injuries in a motorcycle accident while on leave from National Service. In 1994 he claimed a disablement pension under the 1983 Order for disabilities caused by that accident.

Mr Peter Bunce in person;   Barrister Mr Stephen Kovats 'Rat of The Year Award' accepted 30 pieces of silver to appear for the secretary of state; the tribunal did not appear and was not represented.

LORD JUSTICE AIKENS said that the principal issue was whether the tribunal’s decision could be challenged as a matter of law. The 1983 Order had been replaced by the Naval, Military and Air Forces, etc (Disablement and Death) Service Pensions Order (SI 2006 No 606) as amended by (SI 2006 No 1455). Article 41 of the 2006 Order stipulated that a claim for disablement could be granted, provided it was certified by or on behalf of the secretary of state to be attributable to an injury attributable to service, or existed or arose during service and had been and remained aggravated thereby. Article 42 of the 2006 Order stipulated how the degree of disablement would be assessed. The secretary of state had made an interim assessment within article 42(2)(d) of the 2006 Order. By section 5(1) of the Pensions Appeal Tribunals Act 1943, as amended by sections 2 and 23 of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970 and by section 16(3) of the Social Security Act 1980, the claimant had a right of appeal to the tribunal on the issue of assessment. His Lordship accepted the analysis of Mr Justice Langstaff in R (Scanlon) v Pensions Appeal Tribunal and Another ([2007] EWHC 471 (Admin)) that where there was an appeal under section 5(1) of the 1943 Act on the issue of assessment only, the tribunal must start upon the basis of the minister’s acceptance that there was a disability within article 41(1) of the 2006 Order. The tribunal could not, for the purposes of its assessment of the level of disablement, challenge the secretary of state’s decision on the existence of the disablement or whether the disablement was due to an injury which existed before or arose during service and had been and remained aggravated by that service, without exceeding its jurisdiction. While in some cases there might be difficulty in defining the borderline between whether a disability existed and assessing the extent of the disability for the purposes of assessing the disability pension, there was no such difficulty in the present case. His Lordship said that the tribunal had erred in law and its decision could not stand. The judicial review would be allowed and the order of May 8, 2006, would be set aside and the matter remitted to a different tribunal for a new hearing on the issue of assessment of the claimant’s disabilities.

Lord Justice Laws and Lord Justice Wall agreed.

Please write to your MP demanding security of tenure for elderly veterans surviving on a basic pension of £90.70 a week. Once evicted elderly veterans face an impossible rent service criterion of finding another home in a country bereft of affordale homes - ‘Two rooms only at no more than £84.81 a week. {based on NR31 area other areas may differ}  Hundreds of elderly are evicted weekly under the 1988 Housing Act 6-month only short-hold tenancy agreements. Any victim of a section 21 finding another home not fitting the criterion are forced to cover the shortfall in rent from their basic pensions. Over 1-million elderly English veterans victims are forced to survive on less than £50 a week in 21st century England. A country ruled by a corrupt elite.

Warning on ex-services homeless:
One in 10 homeless people in the UK are former members of the armed forces, a charity working with veterans says. We have over 1,000 sleeping rough on the streets of our capital. Thousands of elderly veterans are evicted every month under the 1988 Housing Act short-hold-self-assured tenancy agreements. The only tenancy agreement on offer and from which there is no defence in law. An English judge must send in the bailiffs accoupanied by teh Cops if the tenant fails to vacate the property. A survey by the Ex-Service Action Group on Homelessness suggested that 22% of people who were "street homeless" had a military background. Veterans charity, the Sir Oswald Stoll Foundation, said that efforts by the government and the voluntary sector had brought that down to about 10%.
It fears the numbers is rising at an alarming rate because of service in Iraq/Afghanistan.

Read about the fate of thousands our elderly veterans - homelessness and evicted by Rackman style landlords with no protection in law. At the same time our boys and girls are dying or suffering horrific injuries in the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanstan in wars they cannot win, on their return to civvie street they too be be subject to the 6-month short-hold self-assured tenancy agreement and no security of tenure. Current landlords are able to evict pensioners receiving only £84.81 a week Local Housing Allowance to replace them with up to 30 (Peterborough & Slough have reported such numbers with them sleeping on kitchen worktops) European Migrant Workers at £70 a week each. Who can blame landlords in the current credit crunch?  From this to this within 6 months of leaving the forces

Hundreds of elderly veterans are forceably evicted every month - if they find somewhere else and it fails to meet the impossible criterion by this government (Two rooms at no more than £360 per calendar month) their local housing allowances are reduced leaving them to make up the shortfall from their basic State pension of less than £100 a week. Gordon Brown's claim "A country is judged on the way it treats its elderly" rings hollow to the hundreds treated and die slowly from stress, cold and hunger.  A quicker death and more humane would be the Gas.

BAILIFFS and Cops: You have no rights: Not in England. No matter if your are old, sick or poor they will force entry and evict you dragging you from your death bed if they have that court order a section 21.

ARE WE ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE?  Are the MPs so engaged in fiddling their expense accounts they have no idea what is happening? How can a government allow elderly pensioners to be dragged from their sick beds because landlords have absolute power to do so under the 1988 Housing Act sections 20 & 21. The only security is a 6-month only tenancy agreement then even English judges cannot protect the most vulnerable. nd are our judges complicit?

News Release: Even the RLA BACKS GOVERNMENT PUSH FOR HOUSING BENEFIT REFORM:

A shack is better than sleeping rough when over 65-years-old.

SECURITY OF TENURE AND HOMES FOR LIFE FOR THE OVER 60s.

Our campaign supported by Help the Aged campaigns@helptheaged.org.uk is gaining ground. It is no longer tenable in 21st century England for property speculators (Buy-to-let landlords) having absolute power to evict the elderly, the sick and the poor. Now the NASTY PARTY (Ian Duncan-Smith Tory MP) who first introduced the 1988 Housing Act short-hold self-assured tenancy agreement have put their heads above the parapet seeking to extend this appalling Act of Parliament to evicting council tenants if they do not find work or become to well-off, it is time to repeal the 1988 Housing Act for the over 60s and give them homes until they die. We cannot continue allowing skin-headed pinstriped suited bailiffs accompanied by English cops to evict elderly people every six-months under an act that does not apply in Scotland. Scottish Prime Minister Gordon once said, "A Nation is judged on how it treats its elderly." Well Gordon WHITERH@parliament.uk has failed to act in the 11 years he has held power and has refused to comment. 160,000 tenants were displaced by our courts in the first quarter of 2008 with double that who left before the courts were involved. Over 2 million families, couples and singles are displaced every years by landlords for no reason and who have committed no crimes yet have no defence in law. we have just received news buy-to-let property speculators will be bailed out by Gordon Brown's support even if the properties are empty and tenants are evicted daily as a result.  Ester Ransom response - "That's Life".   You could not make it up.

With this government leaping to assist homeowners including Buy-to-let landlords to keep their homes. no such help is given to tenants. The only tenancy agreement on offer is the 6-month short-hold self-assured allowing property speculators (Buy-to-let landlords) to evict on demand. An English judge has no option but issue repossession orders allowing landlords to engage skin-headed pinstriped suited bailiffs accompanied by Englsih Cops to force entry. SHELTER's Director Adam Sampson is silenced with £2.9-millions from the legal aid fund every year. The corrupt Legal Services Commission gives away £79-millions of your legal aid money every year to unqualified not-for-profit charities to stop them campaigning and prevent individuals applying to the courts. There is no defence in law.

Facing Evictions -- Without the Right to Counsel

by Justice Emily Jane Goodman June 2008.

This is a mirror image in 21st Century England except those evicted must obey impossible criterion in a country with a chronic housing shortage; two rooms at no more than £360 a month or pay the shortfall from a basic pension of £97 a week or less. Are our lawyers and judges letting down the elderly, the poorest pensioners and should many be sacked?

Question: Why it is safer to be accused of a crime and face prison, than to be a tenant facing eviction?

Answer: Because all criminal defendants have a right to legal representation and since 1988 tenants do not.

The main cause of homlessness in the 1988 Housing Act sections 20 & 21, compounded by an impossible criterion imposed a corrupt rent service and restricted local housing allowances is housing evictions and now foreclosures. Sufficient legal resources, including attorneys, do not exist to meet the tenant demand for representation. They do not exist partly because there is no right to legal representation. There were 160,000 repossessions in the first quarter of 2008 according to the Ministry of Justice. Almost all them involving tenants without lawyers. Since there is no right to counsel, "all existing resources put together are not nearly enough to begin to meet the need," Ian Duncan-Smith MP, a member of the Conservative party who introduced this appalling piece of legislation in 1988 is at it agin. He and his so-called middle class probally Buy-to-let landlords are recomending the extention of this act to include council house tenants.  Even an idiot would know that action would descimate families and add to the problem. We have 1.5-million homeless in England - 10% are veterans. Over 1,000 sleep rough on te streets of our Capital city London.

If you care about anything on this website and wish to support our campaigns, please write to your MP using our colleagues at http://www.theyworkforyou.com/ as it is monitored and your letter is supported. Your MP will be forced to reply or risk being reported to a Standards in Public Life select committee. Young lives wasted for a starting pay of less than £17,000 pa. (See NewsAfghanistan)

As former Royal Marines Commando SBS Captain Lord Paddy Jeremy Ashdown warns us the MoD are wasting the lives of our young troops, army chiefs are planning to send up to 1,700 extra British soldiers to Afghanistan to support President Barack Obama’s planned “surge” against the Taliban. The move could see two 700-strong combat battalions go to troubled Helmand Province. Defence Secretary John Hutton will also soon announce a further increase of 300 specialist troops. This is in response to President Barack’s call to European leaders to share the burden of fighting in the region, and will put pressure on France and Germany to send more frontline troops. The revelation comes amid speculation that President Obama could back moves to wrest control from Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai after criticisms of his “weak” leadership. General David Petraeus – the US officer in charge of the surge – will visit Prime Minister Gordon Brown in the next month to finalise the plan. Last night a senior defence source confirmed the plans but said that no final decision had been taken. The group of 300 specialist soldiers will include bomb disposal experts to tackle the growing threat from Taliban mines. Up to 80 per cent of British casualties – about 160 soldiers in the last three months – have come from mines. The increase will take the number of British troops in southern Afghanistan to 10,000:

CRACK Royal Marine Commandos captured a major Taliban bomb factory, linked to the deaths of up to six troops in a pitched two-day battle in Helmand province. Today that area is back in the hands of the Taliban - we do not have enough ground troops to hold the position. What a waste of time and lives.

Dear Sir

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 002124/08

I write in connection with your request for information dated 02/12/2008 for information in relation the three police officers beating up a handcuffed Iraq War veteran.

Your request for information has now been considered and I am not obliged to supply the information you have requested.

Section 17 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 requires Greater Manchester Police, when refusing to provide such information (because the information is exempt) to provide you, the applicant, with a notice which:   (a) states that fact, (b) specifies the exemption in question and (c) states (if that would not otherwise be apparent) why the exemption applies.

The exemption applicable to the information is.

Section 30 Freedom of Information Act 2000 – Investigations and proceedings conducted by public authorities – This is on ongoing investigation and therefore any information provided may prejudice subsequent court proceedings.

Public Interest Test - Considerations favouring disclosure - Accountability

When information disclosed relates directly to the efficiency and effectiveness of the forces or its officers. In this case the release of information will enable the public to have a better understanding of the efficiency and effectiveness of the police service.

Public awareness and debate

Where disclosure can assist individuals by raising awareness of issues which may be of relevance to them. This could empower them to make more effective decisions about their own activities to contribute to more accurate public debate. As the information requested is relating to the assault of a member of the public releasing the information would provide the right quality and accuracy of the details.

Considerations favouring non-disclosure

Investigations

It is rare that details of an investigation will be disclosed as to do so will invariably release personal information, law enforcement techniques and in the case of uncompleted cases potentially damage the criminal justice process. To release any information on a current investigation may assist the offenders in knowing how the case is progressing.

Efficient and effective conduct of the force

Where the current or future law enforcement role of the force may be compromised by the release of information. To release the information may compromise the role of the force if a similar incident were to happen.

Flow of information to the force

Where releasing information would act as a deterrent to the public to provide information to the force. With this relationship impeded, it would be more difficult for the force to gather information required to perform its public services functions. An example of this would be the need to protect the follow of information from informants and the public having confidence that their information will be treated sensitively and appropriately. As the investigation is current there may be informants that could be identified and therefore may not help the police on any future matters.

When balancing the public interest test we have to consider whether the information should be released into the public domain. Arguments need to be weighed against each other. The most persuasive reason for disclosure is accountability, which needs to be weighed against the strongest negative reason, which, in this case, is investigations. As previously stated, releasing this data could have an impact on the on the prevention and detection of the incident.

In accordance with the Act, this letter represents a Refusal Notice for this particular request. This action cannot be taken as confirmation or denial that Greater Manchester Police holds the information you have asked for.

Complaint rights

Your attention is drawn to the attached sheet, which details your right of complaint.

Yours sincerely,

Amanda Ratcliffe

Thank you for your letter of 12 November 2008, regarding your concerns over the equipment issued to troops serving on current operations. Your correspondence has been passed to this department and I have been asked to reply. I would firstly like to reassure you that the MoD and Ministers take the safety of our service men and women very seriously. The Protected Patrol Vehicle (PPV) announcement on 29 Oct 08 underlined the MODs commitment to this by committing to an extra 700 vehicles to further improve the safety and protection of our troops on operations in Afghanistan. The £700M announcement includes £350M for over 400 new armoured light, medium and heavy protected utility vehicles, to be known respectively as Coyote, Husky and Wolfhound. These new purchases will further enhance the mix of vehicles currently available to Commanders which includes Mastiff, Bulldog, Vector, Warrior, and the soon to be delivered Ridgback. This variety gives them the ability to choose the most appropriate capability for the particular mission, threat and task in hand. Consequently 400 less well protected vehicles will be removed from operational theatres. While Snatch Land Rover has received criticism in the press, Operational Commanders however, have remained adamant that the availability of a vehicle of the size, weight and profile of Snatch Land Rover, is critical to the ongoing mission. This does not mean no action is being taken and a programme is in place to apply the lessons learned from the development of Mastiff and Ridgback to Snatch. The programme includes upgrades to Snatch's running gear, chassis and engine and further modifications that enhance the vehicles mobility and protection. They effectively generate a new Snatch variant, especially configured for operations in Afghanistan, which is known as the Snatch Vixen. A small number of these vehicles have already been fielded and the fleet will expand considerably over the coming year. It is important to underline that no vehicle can be made invulnerable; any vehicle can be overmatched if faced with an overwhelming attack, but these modifications mean that Snatch Vixen will offer the highest protection for its size and weight class. Turning to Land Rover Weapon Mounting Installation Kit (WMIK), the vehicle is designed to be a light weight platform to enhance cross country performance. It is used as a fire support platform and can be fitted with a range of weapons including the Heavy Machine Gun (HMG) and General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) in addition to the GPMG fitted as a Crew Protection Weapon. These weapons give the vehicle enormous firepower and the ability to out range an opponent in the vast majority of engagements. The JACKAL vehicle that is now operating in Afghanistan shares these characteristics while also providing even better cross country performance and mine protection. Members of a WMIK crew may be issued with the SA8OA2 rifle as you discuss. This weapon has gained an excellent reputation for accuracy and reliability and is popular with those that use it. The opponents we face on current operations are equipped with a range of weapons in varying states of repair, but I believe the ranges you quote for the AK47 are optimistic. The effective ranges of AK47 and SA80A2 are comparable, but dismounted troops are able to employ a variety of weapons including the Light Support Weapon (LSW - accurate fire to 800m), machine guns of 5.56mm and 7.62mm calibre, mortars, and Javelin missiles. They are also able to call upon artillery fire, including the incredibly accurate Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS), aviation support from Apache helicopters and Close Air Support (CAS) from fixed wing aircraft if required. Again in the vast majority of engagements on current operations our troops can out gun and out range an opponent. I am grateful to you and your organisation for the concern you show for the well being of troops currently serving on extremely demanding operations. (Thank god someone is) I hope this reply has gone some way to reassuring you that we are indeed committed to providing our Service personnel with the best equipment possible.

Yours sincerely

British cops are issued with the above.

But should they be in these below? Stopped manufacture in 1971 as not suitable for Northern Ireland and thinking the only future roll would be peace keeping not clearly wrong, we think the British Government has a duty to reintroduce them:
These below are very good but limited as to large for many opporations:

Watch the Video of the Cops Beating a War Hero. Peter Lightfoot the 21 stone cop is a coward. He has lightfooted it out of his home. He is on high alert. He is in a safe house. We have long memories. This campaigh will continue until he and the other two officers are detained at HM Pleasure ot the Chief Constable and Chief Crown prosecutor has to go. Click on URL below and copy to your out going

Are you scared of your Cops and your Government? Are you afraid to have uniformed cops calling at your home so you do not report crime or criminals? - You have reason. Big Brother has arrived. You and your families are no longer safe. Forget the claim "If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear."  German Jews thought that in the 1920s and 1930s. 6-million Jews were gassed. Is that what you want for your children and grandchildren? Barrister Jack Straw - have you learned nothing?

IMPORTANT MESSAGE:

The Manchester Cops and your British government because of our exposé of Jacqui Smith MP’s involvement in the arrest of an elected politician seeking to do his job to alert us the people to unlawful acts of this government are running scared.  Our exposé of the beating of decorated war heroes Lance Corporal Mark Aspinall by 21 stone Special Cop Peter Lightfoot is lightfooting it. He is on high alert. He is  in a safe house scared of the shadows. He, and two other Cops, following the beating of Paratrooper Delbo King in 2003 also caught on CCTV, is running scared. Our threat to make application to the European  and International Courts and threat move our site off-shore outside the jurisdiction of British courts forced them to consider their position. We are careful to only tell you the citizens the truth. We are members of the Coalition of the International Criminal Court. Some of our exposé were deleted yesterday - we will replace the important text over the next few days. Read CorruptCops and watch the video of a decorated war hero nearly beaten to death by corrupt cops and the same police force who were also caught on CCTV in 2003 beating Paratrooper Dolbo King. These young men are paid £15,000 a year to die and could be maimed in Iraq and Afghanistan. A new cop receives £22,000 a year. A traffic warden not much less. For the first in our history we advise our boys and girls NOT to join the British forces. Barrister Chief CP John Hunt has not decided to prosecute the thugs involved the the beating of Corporal Mark Aspinall in the same way they did not prosecute in former Para Delbo King.  Maybe it is time for John Hunt to resign. Maybe you would like to tell him. john.holt@cps.gsi.gov.uk

NEWS FLASH!

Legal Services Commission have refused a request under the freedom of information act to name the commissioners managing your legal aid fund. We will have to summons the Secretary of State and the Public Accounts Committee chairman to provide that information. What have they got to hide? Are they guilty of misadminstration or misappropriation of public funds? They are guilty of breaching the Freedom of Information Act - they will almost certainly be lawyers - lawyers feathering their own nests at your expense.

Unfortunately it seems our correspondence has crossed. You have now received a response from our Legal Director and we consider the case has been closed.

We publish Mr Andy (Andrew) Johnson's e mail address above. Maybe you too would like to know why these barristers managing your legal aid fund seek to cover-up the funding they paid to Phil Shiner to prosecute our soldiers for doing their job and is now funded to defend Iraqis who murdered our two soldiers illistrated below.

  info@publicinterestlawyers.co.uk

This solicitor Phil Shiner from the firm Public Interest Lawyers has received over £1-million pounds from your legal aid fund to prosecute British soldiers in UK Courts.  Today, he lines his pockets again as he draws over £1-million of your legal aid funds to defend Iraqi murders of two brave decorated war heroes.  DEAD! DEAD! MURDERED! MURDERED! YET SHINER SCOURS THE DEPTHS TO DEFEND FOREIGN NATIONALS USING YOUR LEGAL AID FUNDS

One must ask is he fit to walk the same street as our soldiers or should he be exiled to Iraq or Afghanistan and given a rifle. The coward would bulk at the thought. He feels safer travelling from his home 149 Oak farm Road, Birmingham B30 1ET to his office at Eight Hylton Street. Birmingham. B18 6HN. Tel: +44 (0)121 515 5069. Fax: +44 (0)121 515 5129. Email: info@publicinterestlawyers.co.uk .

His cronies solicitors Gavin Sullivan, Jehangir Jilani and Fouzia Javaid also dip into the 30 pieces of silver from your legal aid funding. Yet ordinary people cannot access the legal aid fund because lawyers are pulling out from the franchisee. That £79-millions a year might be better used if paid to qualified lawyers. We have hundreds of our youn men and women dead and over 1,300 maimed having lost up to three limbs while this man drives to work in his BMW in his £500 suit. He must be the best dressed lawyer in Birmingham.

Public Interest Lawyers

Following complaints by the Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Royal Marines Commando Association and investigation the conclusion of its investigation into Public Interest Lawyers the Legal Services Commission has decided not to issue a contract notice or formal sanction against them. The investigation looked at the actions of the individual employed to represent the firm in Iraq, specifically the methods used to obtain potential clients, and the adequacy of his supervision by members of the firm. In reaching its decision, the Commission recognised that the circumstances surrounding these cases were such that the access to justice that it sets out to deliver was not easily achievable and that, ultimately, the work carried out was appropriate and fundamental to resolving an important Human Rights issue. Before representing clients in similar circumstances again, the firm has agreed to discuss fully with the Commission the implications and the appropriate approach to take. Should similar situations arise in the future, the Commission would investigate these thoroughly and take any action it felt to be appropriate.

Watch this space.  Read about a new piece of flotsam we discovered. A barrister who fights to prevent wounded soldiers from receiving a war pension. And he is not even English Steve Kovats. We have more information on the following lawyers on the make and on the take as they represent local and national government against veterans facing the law courts without counsel. They are eating our veterans alive - yet the Royal British Legion and SSAFA refuse to take cases after they have been to PAT. With all their money in the bank from Poppy Day etc and paying their chairmen in excess of 3300,000 pa, that is a disgrace.

Lyemgar's PA's e mail Darren.Bacon@11kbw.com

Barristers Lyengar and Kovats have accepted 30 pieces of silver to oppose elderly sick veterans forced to represent themselves when seeking a war pension to supliment the basic State pension of £90.70 a week.

 Watch this space:

Barristers and Queen's Counsel and their theatre - With an increase of 271% more barristers today than in 1971, is it time to cut out this layer of overpaid elitists roaming the corridors of power disguised as pantomime dames in wigs and gowns. They are so elite a lay-client cannot have direct contact with them by must approach them via a solicitor costing the country up to £290-billion every year of taxpayers money when a advocate solicitors could take cases from inception to the high courts. In 2003 we nearly succeeded in the demise of barristers and QCs but were piped at the post by the powerful Bar Council and politicians who rose to power via that route. These, past their use-by-date lawyers who go on to become judges always have a conflict of interest. Some act as prosecutors, defence lawyers and also judges. That is three bites of the same cherry - YOUR MONEY. They operate as prosecutors one day and defence lawyers the next. Yes, your defence barrister/QC is a moonlighting prosecutor. You small donation to his life style hardly compares with the £500,000 plus he earns as a CP. With one eye on future 'Briefs' from the CPS, defending lightly, can cause hundreds of miscarriages of justice. Every miscarriage of justice puts more of your money in their pockets at appeal after appeal. Often, they defend lightly so as not to upset their other boss, the CPS, on whom they receive 60% of their annual income. Innocent clients are often stitched-up in the American Rain Cheque syndrome. Let me win this one and I will let you win the nest one. Top QC earn over £4,000 a hour of taxpayers' money. Following our advice, government is employing counsels to act as prosecutors thus saving large sums of taxpayers money. That is bringing tears to the eyes in many a chamber.

The Country is shocked by the awful situation of Haringey Council and Baby 'P.' Since the Victoria Climbie affair, one hundred and fifteen (115) complaints have been made to the Local Government Ombudsman about child protection in Haringey Council. Only one (1) of these complaints has been upheld with a finding of 'maladministration with injustice' with a paltry settlement of £70. * CCTV cameras caught a policeman kicking Delbo King, a 33-year-old former paratrooper, and spraying him with gas while trying to arrest him in Manchester in 2003. Mr King admitted resisting arrest, but felt that the beating had been gratuitous.

No officers were charged.

To: Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Royal Marines Commando Association:

Thank you for your e-mail of 19 August. I have been asked to reply and apologise for the delay in doing so. The Housing Act 1988 strove to achieve a balance between the rights of tenants and landlords. The introduction of assured and assured shorthold tenancies in the Act has had a positive impact for both tenants and landlords. The sector has grown from representing only 8% of households in 1988 to 12% in 2008, providing tenants with a greater choice of accommodation in the area they want to live.  The right for private landlords to seek possession is an important one.  Without the certainty that they can seek possession when they need to, landlords would be reluctant to let their property.  Whilst the majority of landlords will serve their tenants with the length of notice required by law, sadly that is not always the case.  The involvement of the courts, therefore, is essential to ensure that landlords are proceeding fairly and that the proper written notice has been served.  A court possession order also serves to protect landlords who may otherwise face unfounded accusations of harassment and/or illegal eviction.  The Government, therefore, has no plans to amend this aspect of the legislation.  Nevertheless, I do understand your concerns and you may be interested to know that on 23rd January we announced an independent review of the private rented sector. The review, which is to be concluded in October, is being undertaken by Julie Rugg and David Rhodes at the Centre for Housing Policy at the University of York and will consider the following matters:

    • What is the composition of the private rented sector and the regional characteristics? Who lives in the sector and who are the providers?

    • Given demographic and social change, what impact might this have on future demand and supply pressures in the sector and how should key players respond to this?

    • What are the possible actions necessary to ensure the sector delivers the right type of homes of good quality that meet local demand both now and into the future?

    • Given the recent regulatory changes, what more should or could be done to ensure a professionally managed and quality sector to meet demand pressures?

    • What are the tenant and landlord views and experiences of the sector? What are their priorities for change and how can these contribute to policy development?

The Government has already introduced positive legislation to improve the private rented sector, such as Tenancy Deposit Protection and licensing of houses in multiple occupation. The Government will consider the review’s recommendations to see what else can be done to improve the private rented sector for both tenants and landlords.

If you are shocked that for only an extra 4% of additional private rented homes over 20 years we allow elderly people to be evicted without protection of our courts and judges and left to find the shortfall between rents and housing benefit assessment by a corrupt Rent Service. Maybe you would wish to send your displeasure to this department of government. There are many other reasons for the small increase in privately owned property for rent including special tax relief and private pension links and a normally increasing asset. Not one veteran should be evicted and dragged from their sick beds or death beds to protect property speculator's obscene financial gains. Many property speculators like Rackman of the 1970s own up to 3,000 properties and use skin-headed suited thugs to evict - they are now called bailiffs and English Cops.

End rough sleeping - now is the time

Dear Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Royal Marines Commando Association,

In the past two months your voice has been heard in Parliament and City Hall. Now is the time to build on that success and make sure real and lasting change is made to end homelessness once and for all. So for those of you who have been involved before, thank you, and to everyone else, welcome and please get involved today.

Now is the time to put rough sleeping to bed for good

Last time round we asked you to join our campaign to put rough sleeping to bed for good. We are delighted to report that the government has listened to the demands of Crisis and other partner organisations and in response has announced a consultation to review its strategy for tackling rough sleeping, 10 years after it first set its target to reduce rough sleeping to ‘as close to zero as possible’. With this consultation underway, now is the time to influence policy and ensure that the government makes the right choices to end rough sleeping. We have responded to the consultation setting out the changes we think are needed but we need your help now. We need to get MPs to recognise that tackling rough sleeping is an issue that matters to you and to get them to put pressure onto the Housing Minister. In particular, they need to know that it is a scandal that in 21st Century Britain, the fifth richest country in the world, being left with no alternative but to sleep rough still leaves you with no rights to housing or even shelter from your local authority. So we need as many of you as possible to write to your MP saying enough is enough, and that local authorities should have a duty to provide real advice, assistance and shelter to those who are sleeping rough – as the saying goes, ’prevention is better than cure’. So please log on and send a letter to your local MP today. With a few simple clicks of your mouse you can make a concrete difference to some of the most vulnerable people in our society – those who have no option other than to sleep on our streets.

Look how exposed the commandos and driver are on the WIIK Open Land Rovers. One must ask is that right for these young men to have no protection from incomming gun fire? If you feel strongly enough sign our SarahBryantCampaign to have them replaced with armoured cars. Below is the Chopper used to strap commandos to recover their dead comrade because the correct Choppers are not available in the theatre of war.
